Ian Somerhalder Interview THE VAMPIRE DIARIES
Posted by Angela with No Comments
Returning for its third season on September 15th, The Vampire Diaries is the story of two vampire brothers, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder), who are both obsessed with Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev). As Stefan sinks deeper into the dark side, Damon and Elena struggle with the guilt of their growing bond, even as they work together to bring Stefan back from the edge that Original vampire Klaus (Joseph Morgan) has brought him to.
During a recent interview, actor Ian Somerhalder talked about how his character Damon Salvatore will change this season, the push-pull between what Damon truly is and who everyone else wants him to be, the effects of the Season 2 finale kiss between Damon and Elena, Damon’s relationships with Bonnie (Katerina Graham) and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen), and making sure that his character maintains his edge, even if he does end up an anti-hero. Check out what he had to say after the jump:
Question: With Stefan having departed, what role will Damon have in Season 3? How will he change?
IAN SOMERHALDER: Honestly, it’s a television show and these characters evolve. I would rather just remain the bad-ass dude that gets all the great lines and rips everybody’s heads off. That’s what I would prefer. I know it sounds a little sadistic, but it makes for a better character. But, I don’t think that’s the way life is. Kevin Williamson basically sat me down and said, “Just shut up and listen. Life is not one-dimensional. We change.” It’s that push-pull. He’s fighting against what he truly is, and that’s what makes the story dynamic. He is an anti-hero. He doesn’t know how to do all this stuff, so I think he’s going to have some trials and tribulations.
Ultimately, he’s not happy with the way things have turned out. He tried, for two seasons, to get his brother to do what he wanted him to do, which is to be what he is. He wants them to just eat and destroy everything in their paths. Now, Stefan is running around with a guy that Damon hates and tried to kill him. He’s effectively left Damon in this town with this girl who’s 150 years younger than he is, that he’s in love with, but can’t have because she doesn’t want him and it’s his brother’s girl. He’s just sitting there, thinking to himself, “This sucks!” But, I think he’s going to rise to the occasion. He’ll have the same grin on his face, if he’s ripping your head off or saving a kitten. He feels the same way about both things.

Paul Wesley on his ‘Vampire Diaries’ character’s addiction and more
Posted by Angela with No Comments
After 10 years as a successful but under-the-radar TV actor, Paul Wesley is suddenly everywhere. Last summer his face was on more than 30 “Vampire Diaries” posters at the Century City/Westfield mall alone, not to mention billboards over seemingly every major boulevard in Hollywood. A Twitter search brings up a dozen of “his” accounts (none of which, by the way, are run by Wesley or his representation). L.J. Smith’s “Vampire Diaries” novel series, first published nearly 20 years ago, is now being reprinted with images of Wesley and his co-stars, Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder, on the covers.
Still, none of it seems to have gone to his head. There’s no third-party publicist on the line when he calls me during a short break from filming in Atlanta, and he mentions that he’s only recently gotten himself a Los Angeles-based cellphone number. “I kept my New Jersey number literally until a year ago,” he says. “There’s something comforting about it.”
Now that “The Vampire Diaries” has returned from its extended fall hiatus, Wesley’s character, 162-year-old vampire Stefan Salvatore, is struggling to come to terms with his girlfriend becoming friends with his brother, the bloodthirsty and often maniacal Damon. Paul let me in on his dream role, Stefan’s potential dark side, and how Stefan might handle Katherine’s possible return.
Before we talk about what’s up next on “The Vampire Diaries,” I wanted to ask you about “24.” You’re playing Jack Bauer’s son-in-law. We haven’t seen a lot of your character, and obviously you’re busy out in Atlanta, but do you have any plans to return to “24″?
Not that I’m aware of. I’d auditioned for the show so many times over the years, and one day this character came about and they offered it to me, without an audition. I said “Absolutely.” When we shot my first two episodes of “24,” I didn’t even know that I had “Vampire Diaries.” I love the show, I’m a huge fan, and I think the acting is so good. The writers are great. If they were to expand the character, and I could make time for it, it’d be fantastic.

Interview: Paul Wesley is Stefan Salvatore in THE VAMPIRE DIARIES
Posted by Angela with No Comments
In the popular CW television series The Vampire Diaries, Paul Wesley stars as Stefan Salvatore, a vampire struggling to live at peace with human beings. In love with Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), a young woman with a striking and undeniable resemblance to the villainous Katherine, who turned the Salvatore brothers both into vampires, Stefan is compelled to protect Elena from the things that lurk in the shadows.
During the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, Paul Wesley talked about how much he enjoys wearing fangs and getting to work with the cast on the series.
Q: Do you talk to the producers about aspects of the character you’d like to see on The Vampire Diaries?
Paul: Yes, absolutely. As a matter of fact, when we get the scripts, we have a relationship where we can call them and say, “Why do I do this?” Julie and Kevin write our characters for us and, the way that we play our characters, they’ll see something and go, “Oh, I like that smile there,” or “I like Stefan sort of sinister,” and they start writing more of that. They cater to it and, in a sense, mold it to your liking.
Q: What powers of Stefan’s do you wish you had?
Paul: I have every power that he has, he just has it tenfold. Everything that he has is heightened.
Q: Would you want to have those heightened senses?
Paul: It would make me insanely neurotic, even more than I am now, especially overhearing what people say about me. I don’t think I’d want it.
Q: Do you and Ian discuss the sibling relationship?
Paul: We do analyze it. We do a lot of work and spend a lot of time talking about our roles, but then we let it go and drift. We are bros in real life and you can’t fabricate that.

‘Vampire Diaries’ Star Paul Wesley Wants To Show His Fangs ‘I don’t want Stefan to be perfect,’ actor says of his character on the CW drama.

Episode four of “The Vampire Diaries” is set to air on Thursday night (October 1), and so far, viewers have gotten a pretty good look at Damon Salvatore’s evil nature. But we’ve only seen his little brother, Stefan, as a nice, human-blood-abstaining, football-playing vampire next door. Paul Wesley, who plays Stefan, hopes that as the season progresses, fans will also get to know just how bad Stefan can be, if he put his mind (and fangs) to it.
“I love what the writers are doing now, creating these ups and downs,” he told MTV News. “I love the fact that they’re not making me the victim anymore.”
If Wesley had his way, he’d like to show off Stefan’s darker side soon. He is a vampire, after all.
“What’s also cool [is that] Stefan’s really tempted by human blood. He’s so tempted. He’s not perfect. I don’t want Stefan to be perfect,” he explained. “He’s still flawed. I just think it’d be kind of interesting to sort of slip up, maybe, and do something bad and go off the deep end. Sort of a role reversal [with Damon].”
Meanwhile, Stefan’s desire to live like a human teenager rather than a vampire is already giving him a whole new set of problems, Wesley said.
“His layers are starting to sort of show,” he said. “When the story first began, he was sort of this mystery figure. And he always has that ambiguity about him, and as we get to know him and he starts having human problems, he becomes more of a person. For me, what’s interesting is that he’s going to get more intense and get more assertive with Damon and start just humanizing more. And that includes laughter and deep sadness. They’re really starting to make him more complex.”
But, of course, that good-old sibling rivalry is still the dominant force in Stefan’s life. “I just think there’s a power shift going on throughout the season,” Wesley observed. “I think that it’s going to be a constant battle over who has control. But up until this point, Damon has been … the older brother, so [his dominance] obviously can’t go on forever.”
