‘The Vampire Diaries’: Candice Accola on what’s to come with Klaus and Caroline. Plus, more scoop from EW’s vampy set visit — EW VIDEO

Posted by Angela with No Comments

On Thursday, we pick up immediately where the last new episode left off, with Klaus and Elijah once again coming face-to-face (after Klaus stabbed him!) and, later, hosting a dinner party with the Salvatore brothers. “I think there’s definitely an element of fear — not necessarily afraid of what Elijah will do — but what it will mean for Elijah and their relationship,” Joseph Morgan told a group of reporters over brunch during EW’s visit to vamp land. “Their relationship has been founded on a lie that’s 1,000 years old, and so it’s a huge deal. He’s gotten away with it for a while.” (Ian Somerhalder jokes, “Geez, I used to lie to my brother for a couple of weeks and he’d be livid.”)

On THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, now in its third season on the CW Thursdays at 8 PM, there is a great deal of brooding among the vampires, the werewolves, the hybrids, the humans and even the ghosts. Standing apart from the angsty crowd is Candice Accola’s character Caroline Forbes.

True, Caroline got turned into a vampire while in high school at the start of second season, and various people have tried to kill her again thereafter, but she has managed to maintain a sense of humor and a sunny (at least metaphorically) outlook most of the time, although her recent birthday party was something of a downer.

Caroline has also had a tumultuous love life, with human Matt (Zach Roerig) and werewolf/hybrid Tyler (Michael Trevino) both vying for her affections; she may even have caught the eye of ancient vampire hybrid Klaus (Joseph Morgan). Then there are Caroline’s divorced parents – her vampire-hunting mom, town sheriff Liz (Marguerite MacIntyre) has come around to accepting her blood-drinking child, but vampire-hunting dad Bill (Jack Coleman) is still having issues with his daughter’s lifestyle.

Accola, who originally hails from Houston, Texas, talks about playing the complicated Caroline at a party thrown for the press by the CW.

ASSIGNMENT X: When you started on VAMPIRE DIARIES, did you know that Caroline was going to turn into a vampire and, on occasion, a major ass-kicker?

CANDICE ACCOLA: I definitely did not know. It was a very wonderful surprise, especially considering that at the end of the opener for Season Two, Caroline dies, so it’s nice to know that I had an opportunity to come back and still be part of the show, but now as a vampire.

AX: At this point, in terms of Caroline’s love life, are you Team Tyler, Team Matt or Team Klaus?

ACCOLA: I am officially Team Caroline. I think that Caroline just needs to learn a lot about herself and that the audience hasn’t really met all of Tyler or all of Matt [or Klaus], so I think it’s too soon to decide.

AX: In terms of the dynamics of what’s happening between the characters, do you enjoy matching up with a fellow supernatural, or do you enjoy when Caroline tries to reach back to her old human normalcy?

ACCOLA: To be quite honest, it’s really fun just to do the supernatural, [the] stunts and play off this. It’s always fun to have a very, very human experience at work, but it’s also fun to have the complete opposite and to live in this fantasy world. So it’s a very fun to be working on.

AX: Speaking of stunts, how much physical technique did you already have down when you were cast?

ACCOLA: By no means was I going to be a professional dancer, but I grew up taking dance classes down the street and that’s actually been the most helpful in the stunt work, counting out the steps and “five, six, seven, eight, and punch.” It is funny how those little things that you learned as a kid that you don’t think are going to translate, all of a sudden, as an adult, they help you out in your job. So that was something that I did physically when I was young.

AX: A lot of male action stars say that one of the reasons they wanted to become actors was for the opportunity to play the fight scenes. Were you at all motivated by the idea of getting to do scenes where you might hit or bite somebody?

ACCOLA: I think as a child, aspiring to bite people as an adult would probably make you a bit of a creepy child. I think it’s been the cherry on the cupcake. [Playing a vampire] has [provided] really fun things to do.

AX: Given the perils Caroline has consistently faced, have you read any scripts and thought before coming to the end, “Oh, no, I’m dead”?

ACCOLA: No, I’ve just learned to accept it, because [if a character is being killed off], we’ll get an official phone call, and I haven’t received any official phone calls, so I feel okay at this point.

AX: And what would you most like fans to get out of VAMPIRE DIARIES Season Three?

ACCOLA: Just to be entertained, to be ready to watch the next episode the next week.

Interview: Daniel Gillies on Vampire Diaries Return, Reunion, Major Episode Ahead

Posted by Angela with No Comments

I tried, Vampire Diaries fans.

I poked and prodded and hinted and tried to get Daniel Gillies to spill some details on whether or not his newly revived Original would soon be reunited with all three brothers and his sister – but he just laughed and kept making the same point when the topic arose:

“It’s the season of the Originals, like Julie Plec said awhile back. I’m just gonna hide behind that.”

Still, we can all read between those exciting lines, can’t we?

Elijah is Back!

For awhile now, Gillies said he was “pretty confident” he’d return to Mystic Falls, expressing shock and gratitude for the fans’ reaction to Elijah.

“The character just grew in popularity, more so than I ever expected him to,” said the actor. “I’ve died four times and been resurrected four times. It’s great.”

So now that Elijah is back in the suspense-filled picture, what can we expect from him? How does he view the brother who recently placed him, once again, in “the big sleep,” as Gillies referred to his dormant state?

“They’re gonna have to put aside their differences,” the star said. “Let’s face it, both of us have betrayed the other in some way, Klaus obviously more prolifically than Elijah, but Elijah has done his fair share, as well.”

Referring specifically to Thursday’s “Bringing Out the Dead,” Gillies teased the episode will “dictate the course” of the next several installments, with “terms and parameters” getting laid out for various characters.

Gillies explains Elijah’s relationship with Klaus as having been “appallingly adversarial for hundreds of years” and said if there’s any love at all on his character’s end, it was “suppressed” a long time ago.

At this point, Elijah has one item on his agenda: getting his family back together.

The actor doesn’t know (or perhaps just can’t say) how long he’ll be around for this time, but he couldn’t stop gushing about the cast and crew on The Vampire Diaries.

“I can’t tell you how much I love my job with these guys,” he said. “And I really, really love Julie Plec. She’s the most considerate boss I’ve ever had… just so diplomatic and so careful to really listen to you when you have an issue.”

That really is very nice to hear, but getting back to Klaus and Rebekah and Finn and Kol and…

“It’s the season of the Originals,” Gillies said again.

See, I tried.

A FLIP OF THE COIN — After starting her day with a startling discovery of Damon’s (Ian Somerhalder) latest indiscretion, Elena (Nina Dobrev) is frustrated to find that none of her friends agree with her on how they should react to the Original family’s internal power struggle. Once again caught up in the destiny of the Bennett witches, Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Abby (guest star Persia White) find themselves playing a part in a ritual to appease the spirits of nature. When Elijah (guest star Daniel Gillies) gives Damon and Stefan (Paul Wesley) a dangerous ultimatum that puts Elena in danger, they turn to Alaric (Matt Davis) and Meredith (guest star Torrey Devitto) for help with a plan that leads them to a terrible choice. Candice Accola also stars.
